The Childrens Community Programs of Connecticut is Hiring a Family Consultant Near New Haven, CT

The Family Consultant (FC) is responsible for initiating and maintaining regular contact and providing support to families with an infant or toddler in childcare. Regular (at least twice per month) contact with families will occur in the child’s childcare setting, the family’s home, in a community setting (e.g., library or park), or virtually. Additional contacts via phone or text may also occur. FCs will support parents in their parenting roles as well as help families connect with community services (e.g., health and mental health services, education, housing, and others) and with other families. Interactions should be family-centered, strength-based, and directed at establishing a trusting relationship; strengthening the parent-child relationship; promoting healthy childhood growth and development; and enhancing family well-being by helping families make connections with services in the community as well as with other families. Activities may also include but are not limited to: administering the Family Map interview (assessment of family strengths and goals) and the Parenting Interacting with Children Checklist of Observations Linked to Outcomes (PICCOLO, an observational assessment of parent-child interaction) and screening tools such as the ASQ and ASQ-SE.

Selection Criteria for Family Consultants:

o Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, with some college coursework

o experience in working with or providing services to young children and their families

o an ability to establish trusting relationships

o acceptance of individual differences

o experience and humility to work with culturally diverse families

o knowledge of infant and child development

o willing to engage in building reflective capacity (e.g., capacity for introspection, communicating awareness of self in relation to others, recognizing value of supervision, etc.)

o familiarity with resources in the New Haven community is preferred

o infant mental health endorsement preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 per hour
